SEIA Encouraged by EC’s ‘Measured Response’ in China Trade Case Friday, June 7, 2013 After a decision by the European Commission (EC) to impose provisional duties on Chinese solar exports, John Smirnow, SEIA vice president of trade and competitiveness, issued the following statement:“We view today’s decision by the European Commission to adopt a thoughtful two-stage approach to the imposition of duties on solar panels from China as a positive development. The EC’s measured response creates a positive environment for negotiations, which we think is critically important given the global nature of the solar supply chain. It’s time for everyone to work together toward a mutually-satisfactory resolution of these solar trade cases. Importantly, potential settlement options must consider not only the interests of solar manufacturers but also solar consumers and service providers. We’ve already seen how a dispute within one segment of the solar industry affects the entire solar supply chain, and so too will any negotiated settlement.” www.seia.org		The Shale-gas revolution and European renewables: Divergence and cooperation in alternative energy Friday, June 7, 2013 That the United States and Europe have been following different energy policies over the past few decades won’t come as a surprise. However, according to one researcher, their divergence – with the US leading ‘the shale gas revolution’ and Europe investing heavily in modern renewables – is a good thing for the development of both alternative-energy sources. Writing in the Journal of Transatlantic Studies, Marianne Haug of the University of Hohenheim argues that although the transatlantic energy partners continue to be committed to common goals – namely energy security, environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness – the relative priority given to each has changed substantially since the early 1990s.

The 28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (28th EU PVSEC) will take place from 30 September to 04 October 2013 at Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, France.
